We are REAL, just ask the New York Times!

I was all primed to write about the potential adoption of the Value Added Tax as a new, unmined souce of funds for our Congress and President but that's going to have to wait. Something much more important may be happening now that makes the Haiti and China earthquake and the SoCal earthquakes, the tragic deaths of the miners in West Virginia and all the rest pale in significance!
The New York Times, the standard by which all other papers are judged, has declared (drum roll, please!) that Tea Partiers are pretty much human and not the deviates first thought of by the folks in the Blue states.
The Times in cooperation with CBS News found that we Tea Party people are more conservative that most Republicans, that we are probably older than many in the Republican party and that we believe Obama to be very liberal (Ha!) However, instead of being dissatisfied as many Republicans describe themselves, the Tea Party members describes themselves as "angry". Angry with Big Government, angry about the direction of the Country and angry about being ignored by Washington and our representatives there.
This survey is a good thing. Being prepared by the New York Times and CBS News, there can be no higher validation (at least in the Liberals' minds) for our Tea Party phenomenon and the far reaching effect it can have in Washington and throughout the Nation.
As the political sophisticates of Collin County discovered in the recent Republican run-off election for state representative, pitting a well-connected RINO (Republican In Name Only) against a Tea-supported Conservative, party insider affiliation does not assure anything. The Tea Party mantra of True Representation at every political level, Fiscal Conservatism and Less Government Intrusion plays well to the music that "I'm mad and I'm not going to put up with it anymore." As I saw on a sign at a rally recently, "Congressman, you've been warned!"
It's going to be fun.

Where Were These Guys When We Needed Them?

Last week Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve Chairman was in Dallas and brought the news that financially, the United States is in trouble if a) we don't raise taxes b) cut entitlements like Social Security, Medicare, etc.) and reduce spending.
Wow, we would have never guessed!
Then the ex-Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Mr. Greenspan testified that the Congressional Budget Office based their projection of the impact of the Health Care program on very narrow margins and everything needed to work together to make those projections come true. Another BIG SURPRISE!
I guess since Mr. Bernanke is still drawing a paycheck as the current Chairman and Mr. Greenspan is working only to improve or keep the memory of his time as active Chairman fragrant and sweet, we had better listen to Mr. Bernanke.
Let's see now; a) Raise taxes? b) Cut Social Security, Medicare and the new Health Care expenses (if and when they go into effect or maybe c) Cut future Spending. What a choice our sages in Washington must be mulling over!
Based on experience, options b) and c) are not going to happen so the option a) seems to be the only answer. Raise taxes but how is the question? Got to be careful, might complicate the present tax code and make it difficult to understand.
Then someone dusted off the idea of a Value Added Tax, a tax favored in Europe and the trial balloons have been released. There seems to be strong interest in that direction as this would be just one more step of Mr. Obama's effort to "Europeonize" the United States. More next time.

You Want Me to Pay for What?

Have you ever seen a story on the Internet and scanned it quickly to see if it is a joke? This was my reaction earlier today when I read that Ryanair, a low-cost airline based in Europe is working on a plan to charge for the use of their restrooms on flights of one hour or less!
Quick, where's the punchline?
It must to be in the CNN story somewhere, following so closely on the heels of the announcement that Spirit Airlines in Florida was going to charge for carry-on luggage.
As someone who grew up in the era when the announcement that you made that "you were flying in" was greeted with awe and envy from the less fortunate, the deterioration of our lives seems almost complete! Can there be anything left that can be taken away that we once took for granted? The elimination of meals, the charging for checking luggage, the pre-boarding indignity of taking one's shoes off, exposing that hole in the toe of your sock that you forgot about, and all the other reductions and add-ons we accept to get from point A to point B, rapidly, Americans will accept and adapt to. But watch out, Mr. Airline Executive, this could get ugly.

What's Behind the Curtain in the Land of D.C.?

Sometimes we view the situation here in the US and think that because we are outweighed by the big, bad, government, we can't win. But it's not the size or the resources of the government but, in fact, it's the unlimited deceit and the "mania for change" of the present administration! Obama seems to be surrounded by specialists who have major input into his pronouncements. As I was watching a video of Michelle recently in a speech before some gay-sponsored luncheon I thought "She's not the dominating, white-hating, mad black woman she has been made out to be in the conservative press and innumerable emails circulated after she came on the "scene". In her speech, she came across somewhat like a little girl, proud of her husband as she recounted the things he had done to bring freedom to people like those in a predominantly gay audience.
Instead of the anti-Christ and his bride living in the White House, do we, in fact, have a darker-hued Ken and Barbie?
If we consider the actions of our President thus far, we see an un-formed man, an inexperienced man, a simple man who speaks a curious mix of slangy expressions and cliche, talking about ideas and concepts "above his pay grade" and making diplomatic blunders that even a first-year trainee in diplomacy would see as a career breaker. His response in times of stress are predictable and are unfailingly banal. His use of the trappings of the Office of Presidency and the waste that ensues makes the average American citizen, many of whom are out of work, cringe! A date night in New York- no small cost for us mortals but unbelievably expensive when you and your party helicopter in from DC is just one of many instances. There is a sense of, to the victor goes the prize, no matter what the cost.
All of us, admirers and detractors alike, marvel at Obama's rapid fire proposals to change our Country. Even before the final shots were fired concerning the national Health Care bill, we began to hear rumblings concerning Cap and Trade, Gun Control, continued work on Executive compensation, Education reform, Guantanamo closing, etc, etc, etc
We all look on in amazement! Where does this man get his energy?
The man has finally reached the pinnacle of success, the "CEO of the World". But, what if he is merely the front man offering little in the way of input but instead is a straw man for a syndicate, and is a drone, that will respond in a predictable fashion to the direction of others? We know that, foundationally, Obama was nurtured by Bill Ayres and Reverend Wright and, of course, others but that was only a beginning. Is it possible that now, instead of fulfilling the traditional role of the Presidential Cabinet as advisors, the Cabinet is the un-elected directors of the affairs of the United States? With the spotted financial and personal history of Obama's appointees, would this explain how some many major changes in our Country have been accomplished by "gaming the System", using what many would say are underhanded and un-Constitutional methods. Stay tuned.

How to Creatively Spend OPM (other people's money)

This is a memo to those who like me, are breathing a sigh of relief. As Winston Churchill once reputedly said, "There is nothing more satisfying than hearing a bullet going by after missing you!"Like many of you, I have received numerous surveys and appointments to many major committees to retire Nancy Pelosi, to get rid of those Demoncrat rascals in Washington, to restore the Republican party to its rightful place in Washington, etc. All seemed to always ask for money, desperately needed by the Republic National Committee to carry on the good fight. Quite frankly I have been slow to respond and I have been embarrassed!
Now we learn that Mr. Michael Steele and his merry band of committed Republicans have needed our modest contributions not only to retire Nancy Pelosi and rid ourselves of those sorry, Left-leaning Rinos and Demoncrats but to also pay for R and R for the hardy warriors in our employ. These rest and relaxation needs included Staff retreats in Hawaii and for those stay-at- homes, $1,900 evenings spent at "in" adult clubs like Voyeurs in California. There are many ways to restore the troops and send them out to fight, once again! There are even reports that Mr. Steele believes that he could be even more effective in his future efforts if he had his own executive jet aircraft.
At a time when renaissance seemed assured for the Republican party, Michael Steele has proven that once inside the Beltway and one has control of someone else's money, the normal rules of stewardship are repealed.
Now, aren't you glad you were slow to send in your contributions, I know that I am.

Do People Really Care?

Every conservative American that I have spoken with over the last couple of years have viewed the indignation that our fellow citizens have voiced with fear, believing that something new or different would soon capture the discontenteds' enthusiasm and steal away their long term commitment for meaningful change. Don't laugh, we are a fickle country! Has anyone read anything about Haiti lately?
Now, there's signs that the Conservative nature of our Country is finally gaining traction and that these signs, if maintained, will manifest in a change in the makeup of Congress and perhaps in three more years, a new resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
A new poll by the Washington Post has verified that the populace is finally waking up to the "freedom grab" that has taken place since Obama and his followers have taken office. The respondents to the Washington Post poll are not happy! Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House continues to put up a negative balance between Approval rating of 42% while her Disapproval rating continues to be higher at 46%. Poor ole Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader is really in a world of hurt, with his Approval rating at a miserable 29%! Even his Approval rating in his own district (where he is currently running for reelection) has dropped to a miserable 26%. Goodbye, Harry. Apparently Obama's handling of the Health Care won him a few more Approval points bringing him within Two percentage points at 48%.
Folks, with the issues of immigration about to take center stage and that nasty question of our rights under the Second Amendment still lurking in the background, the momentum is building for a major direction change in Washington. It is going to be fun to watch!

Full of Sound and Fury and Signifying Nothing?

Earlier today I received an email from a friend. She listed numerous transgressions of the Obama administration and in her email to me, asked if I believed that working through the Tea Party structure would make a difference. Here's a copy of my reply to her sincere inquiry.......
XXXX, thanks for your note. I understand what's frustrating to you and to me and many others when we see the rules bent and broken to accomplish Obama's goals. The recess appointments are only one example and yes I think that sometimes the odds are stacked against the Conservative nature in many of our citizens. As people who have seen men like Jimmy Carter come and go we can testify that they will, in fact, go in the future, probably not as soon as we would hope but I have faith that Obama will, and will be judged Number One in the list of worst presidents!
Now, I really believe what I wrote to ZZZZ regarding the leadership of the North Texas Tea Party. Frankly I was afraid when the tea party movement started that it would be like a Roman candle, explode and then poop out. The thoughts that I saw that had already gone into sustaining the movement impressed me with its plan to "vet" the candidates, support those that fit the conservative agenda (regardless of party affiliation), and monitor them when they reached their office appealed to my sense of order. We heard the word "patience" thrown around a lot but I believe that this is what it is going to take. We can call Obama a socialist, a communist, a muslim or a lot of worse names but personally I only get a momentary feeling of relief. There are those whose idea is armed resistance, at least in talk, but again, long term, if it came to that, our country is going to become balkanized and we'll have to take United out of our country's name. We've gotten a taste of the violent reaction to the health care vote and none of us liked it. We are not a banana republic!
What we already see in the Obama administration is disorder and ineffectiveness appearing, the MSM criticizing him, finally, and his "true believers" abandoning him. I believe that with a nudge from the tea party's candidates the Republicans will begin to assert themselves and some of the terrible decisions made by Obama can begin to be rectified. I believe that this is still the American way and I want to be a part of that revolution. The North Texas chapter is meeting monthly and they are looking for help. I'll give you and xxxx a call and invite you to see what is happening there. Regards to you and xxxx, Bill

There are those who have been in political fights before and as far as I can tell there's little glory associated with most of the jobs but I'm going to give this a shot because I believe it's worth it. I'll let you know what I see.

Thank the Lord for Joe Biden

It's been a while since we've met together. I've thought a lot about this blog, wondering if it's not more of the same that's already available from the Right Wing media, the Lefties, all kinds of blogs and the veritable flood of e-mails that often times meets themselves after circling the globe. Is there any issue, any controversy, any conflict that has not been discussed to death?
As I thought about this over my first cup of coffee this morning, I saw in the DMN that Joe Biden, our Vice President had been in town for another fund raiser. My first impression was that politicians have insatiable appetites for campaign funds (Is it true that when they finally retire from public office, they get to keep any money left in the kitty?) and the second was in the form of a question. "Why did Obama select Biden as his running mate?"
We know that Joe Biden has brought the use of improper and vulgar language to a prominence once only occupied by the talents of drill instructors, field workers, and adolescents trying out dirty language for the first time. And, of course, Biden is famous for his gaffs committed before large and shocked audiences.
I was into my second cup of coffee when it came to me-Barack Obama allowed Biden on his election train for one reason- Biden makes Obama look soooooo good in comparison. Certainly a white guy balances the Ticket and only a Female, White person would be better but Hillary was not to be trusted. Who would want Hillary standing behind them?
Then the Obama/Biden partnership reminds me of a majorette we had in our college band. Beautiful girl! It was weird, though, she hung out with probably the most homely girl in our college. A real puzzle until one day, a person who had been their classmate all through high school explained that the majorette hung with the homely girl because it made the majorette, look SO GOOD!
The Obama-Biden mystery has been answered.
